Tips on Interior Painting

The first steps you will take in this journey are to select the rooms you will paint and then choose the primary colors and any accents you will apply. Once that’s done, you can get down to business.

Before you apply one brush stroke to your interior painting project, ensure that you have all the supplies you need. Make a list and check everything off to be certain. You will require:

• Paint
• Brushes
• Rollers
• Tape
• Drop Cloth
• Rags
• Cleaner
• Hole filler
• Sandpaper

This list should make it evident that there are several preparatory steps for painting. Clean the walls first, so there is no dust, splashes, or other materials that will cause the paint not to stick or will show through. Also, when you’re cleaning the walls, it’s the perfect time to discover any imperfections that need fixing, such as cracks.

Repair cracks with a hole filler, let them dry, then sand them smooth.

Tape all areas you aren’t going to paint – trim, for example.

Spread your drop cloths and have your rags ready to catch errant drips.

Use the primer to cover all the surfaces so that the new paint will cover the walls smoothly and evenly.

Once you begin painting, take your time and apply it in even strokes. From time to time, step back and look at the wall to see how the paint is going on and look for areas where it’s uneven.

When you’ve finished, pack up your materials, and then make sure to clean your brushes and rollers for the next time you need them.
